Is there a way to save blocks per page type (like a template but w/blocks)?

Hi, there,

Is there a way to save a page type with block references to the Global Scrapbook?

I'm finding that I'm adding lots of similar pages, and with 10 blocks over two side columns on every single page, it seems that there might be an easier way to do this.

Thanks so much,

- Paul

use page defaults and add global blocks,

Go to:

- Dashboard
- Pages and Themes
- Page Types

click on "Add a Page type"

From there on select the page layout and build your basic page with the blocks from the scrapbook.

save it.

You can then use the page you just made as a default when creating a new page. it has all basic blocks you added in the type included so you only have to make the page specific changes on the new page.

Thanks very much!

Exactly what I was looking for!

Do I need to take off the blocks I already created on individual pages and just re-save these as the new type?

You totally rock.

It only works on new pages created with the new page type.

if you want it to be used on old pages you'd have to manually add those blocks to the existing pages or you'd have to delete the pages and recreate them with the new page type.

actually you can click a block you've made in defaults and there's a little option that lets you copy it out to all the child pages that match type.

True, I learned that later but that is not available in the personal scrapbook of the admin account now is it?

I tried this because I also need to do this, but do not have any blocks showing when I go to edit the Default (see screenshot). Any ideas?

Thanks

Judging from that screenshot I can only say you have a problem on the server itself.
I've seen a similiar error appear on a clients Joomla site which was caused by Zend optimizer being wrongly or not configured at all.

I suggest you check that and if you can't find it contact your hosting company

Turned out to be something related to permissions. Duh! The site was installed by the IT Dept for my client, so perhaps they are a super-admin. I could not see the blocks to edit because the permission was not set for the group I am part of, Administrators. Once I checked that box, and saved the edits, the invisible block issue cleared up.

Kind of makes sense, but kind of strange.

Thanks,
Spencer
