Issue trying to edit in a block on homepage in 'view source'

Hi,
We have taken over running our website from the previous creator and trying to edit a few bits on the homepage with much difficulty. We are completely new to this!
We can get blocks of text in the 'mode' but not when the blocks are part of the design. We thought it needed to be down through 'right click' + 'view source' but in this mode it won't let us delete?

You can't edit your site through the View Source, that is only for seeing what is already on the page. If the items you are trying to change don't become editable when you put the page into edit mode they are most likely either stored in a Stack (Dashboard -> Stacks & Blocks) or they are hard coded into the template. If they are hard coded into the template you will need to get FTP access to the files on your server and change things in the theme files.

You have to talk to the person who controls your server.
