Layout question

I putting together a site with 5.4, and have one section where I'm using Layouts. There are 2 columns, however I'd like some space between them. I added a value and for some reason it didn't take. So, I added a third column, the middle one being empty. I used the sliders to adjust. However, when I save the page it goes back to each of the columns being equal, leaving a large (1/3) space between.

How do you save the positioning of the layout? I tried locking it, that didn't seem to do anything.

try going to the dashboard/settings/debug page and refreshing your database schema. this is the official 5.4 release right, not 5.4RC1?

That didn't do anything. I started with RC1 but upgraded to to official release yesterday, before creating this page.

Update: I made a new 2 column layout with spacing, moved the blocks to it and deleted the old one, and the spacing worked this time, so problem solved on this one, sort of. There's space on the outsides too and I would have preferred if the space was only between the panels but I can live with this as a compromise. I'm still curious as to why the sliders wouldn't stay where I wanted them to.

One other thing that came up: in the original layout, I also ended up with layout bars inside the columns. This is because there is a small 3 column layout in one of the larger layouts. However, when I clicked the plus sign and went to edit the layout I got an error message.

That said, this new layout addition is the bees knees. I almost feel like I'm cheating when I use it.

Seriously, anyone trying to use the layout feature should just get the $15 area splitter block. You can make columns and create all kinds of layout with it. It does ore than that though like tabs as well. It gives you complete control of how the columns sit etc.

I would urge a small amount of caution and run tests before diving in to the Area Splitter block, while it's a good deal and very helpful, there have been a few outstanding bugs reported.
