Layout tool widths?

I've been trying to set widths with the sliders using the layout tool. The widths show in edit mode but not after being published or during preview.
This is a fresh install of concrete five.
On the last site I built with C5 this worked flawlessly. As I've lost those files I'm not sure if I was using a previous version.
Am I missing something here or is this a bug?
