Linking Problems.

I'm having lots of trouble linking pages to my website. Instead of displaying the linked page, the document downloads.

Next I tried linking through anchoring within the document, but I can't seem to do that either.

And finally, I'm trying to add a powerpoint presentation, and I can't seem to do that.

Suicidal,
Kit

Can you give us some examples of the links?

For instance, I have uploaded several lengthy files to the file manager of my website. When I try to add links to them, they will only download rather than display.

Next, I have tried adding the documents to the page and using the Anchor command to try get the link to connect with the corresponding part of the page.

Can you possibly help me with simple, simple, simple directions?

Thank you,
Kit

I think we need to know the file types (extensions) of what you are having trouble with.

If you link to (for example) an ms word .doc file, the chances are that internet explorer may display it in an MS Word viewer and other browsers will just download it. And what happens will vary depending on who clicks the link, what browsers they are using and what their browser configuration settings are, regardless of what you are actually seeing.

In either case, I doubt if that is what you actually want for a web site.

To show such a .doc file contents within a concrete5 site, you would need to copy and paste its text into one or more content blocks within a page.

So it all depends on the type of files you want to show. You need to post the file types/extensions for any advice to be more specific.

EDIT:
I'm not sure if you want to just link to the part of the page with a link to download a file or if you want to display the contents of a file. If you want to display the contents of the file I would refer to @JohntheFish's comments above. If you just want to create a link to send people to the part of a page with a link to download the file then see below.

Ok here goes,
1. While in the content editor click the anchor icon and type the name you want for this anchor
2. Click "Add File" and select the file you want.

Be sure to do it in this order or you may end up placing the anchor link with the file link which will cause the file to download.

Then - Important Part.
3. When giving out a link use the link for the _page_ that the file is on and add a # symbol with the name you chose for your anchor.
Example

Hope that makes sense.
