MAMP Question and a general thanks’all

Hi Concreters,

Glad to say my first site is looking great and I’m pleased with how easy and rewarding it is doing websites with Concrete5.

The 'forum help' system works very well too and I’m consistently pleased with the level of helpfulness from people.

Very good thing!

I have one more question to those of you sitting at home (ahem) doing their websites on their imac and developing in a MAMP environment.

I want to let the client see their website about now and I know this is possible with MAMP and web sharing etc.

I've checked out a few websites and registered a dyn.dyns host name as one site told me to do. I don’t know what to do next though.

The site in question next said to add an alias to my vhost in MAMP??? huh?

Does anybody out there know how to get MAMP out into cyberspace?

As usual thanks in advance to all responders.

First, are you behind a router at home? If yes, you need to forward your web port (usually port 80), to your iMac's local IP address through your router software. There's a 'port forwarding' section in a place like Applications and Gaming in your router software.

Be sure that web sharing is turned on in your Sharing Preferences in System Preference, and that the port is open through the firewall on your iMac.

Is your website located inside your user's Sites folder? if yes, your address will behttp://yourdomain/~User/

if you have it in your MAMP folder, it should be simplyhttp://yourdoman

MAMP sets up apache to go to your MAMP folder by default.

hope this helps!
