Mass Page Version deletion?

This question regarding mass page deletion was asked previously and as recently as 5 months ago. I have searched, but have not found an answer and hoping I have missed it somewhere.

Established the site I am working on is bloated with scrap page versions, I was unaware that I should have been deleting along the way. Learning C5, and a bit of poor planning, guessing there is on average 100+ unwanted versions for each page on the site. This became evident by the size of the backup file, the fact I can no longer delete heavily edited pages, and of course the site slowing significantly. Having 50 or so core pages, not including product pages, it is not practical to remove thousands of page versions through the edit function.

Sure would appreciate any help on a script, or what I can rip out(and which file), to remove unwanted page versions.

My situation is much worse than I first thought. Apparently every time you copy a page all of the page versions from the copied page transfer to the new page! Really looking for anyone's sound advice on removing previous page versions. Have no need for the previous versions, so if there is a way to loose all but the existing approved that would be great with me.
