modification to block results in comments disappearing

I modified a block so that the comments no longer required approval, and the comments disappeared. The blog page shows there are 2 comments, but when you visit the page, they are gone.
Clearing the cache had no effect. Any ideas?

May want to show the code that was modified. I assume that is where the problem is.
