It depends on a number of factors, such as if the Area names are the same, but even if they were, I would still copy and paste the content from one site to the other.
Depending on what you're trying to end up with:
A) having two existing accounts on one host account... One site can be moved to be a Subdomain of the other ie.http://www.site#2.site#1.com
this leaves the content seperate but the SEO of the primary site can benifit both.
B) Merging two seperate sites to be visible in one location. This could be done be either adding external links in the sitemap so the two sites link to each other on the navigation menu ( yuk... gets messy ) or use Iframes to call content from one site and display it on the other
C) To have just one site: "Bite the bullet" and copy/paste content from one to the other (I use the html view in the editor to do this so I don't have to reformat)and use 301 redirects to retain SEO
just merging two sites and their respective databases may not be impossible to do without errors, but I'd have to believe very difficult and problematic (page id's, image and form urls etc).
