Trying to use Nav Selected...

Hi I'd like to know how to use the navSelected pseudo class on the auto nav block and superfish.
In Superfish I can get it to stay italic but can't keep the color changed.
In Autonav I don't know how to apply it. Attaching a class .navselected doesn't seem to work.
Is there an attribute somewhere?
