Need Help Adding/Changing Page Description Under "Properties"!!!!!!!!!!

Can anyone please help me? When I designed my website, I never filled in the description box when creating the pages. Now it wont let me. I have absolutely no "keywords" etc with search engines because this block is empty. When I try to edit the description now under "properties", I get error message that just says "Message from webpage", and then there is a whole box of html code.
How can I add a description to my pages???? Please help. Thanks!
