Page Type Muddle (Its OK– Sorted!)

Hi there,

Im in a real mess with my page types.

My site is all custom page types designed with their own html and css.

I have loaded most of them OK but there are two versions of a couple of them and I cant delete them because it says I have to delete all usages of it.

In Inspect themes they are listed correctly but under the Page Types there are too many and like I said I cant delete them.

This has severely screwed up my autonav (although my Superfish nav is OK)

I feel like Im in a real mess with these page types.

Whats the important bit the name or the handle?

Ive given all the page types the same icon because there isnt one that suits my design. Does that matter?

Now I have two 'Company Profile' Page types and it wont let me delete the one I dont want.

My autonav is asking for a page that doesnt exist.

Its a big @*£$ up and I was going really well.

Any help on this Page Type stuff would be great.

I have read everything I can on it.

well yeah that sounds pretty bad.

in general you should only be creating a page type if there is some unique data or structure to the page in question, and that uniqueness is going to be shared across several instances. If its really a one off, a single page is a better idea.

Some of what you're talking about regarding uploading new icons to page types and deleting them should be handled in the latest version of concrete5, perhaps still in beta - i think only part of that got in 5.3.2

Thanks Franz, but I have sorted it now. I fiddeled about and the system better now.

One question I do have though is this.

The site I have created and which works well is all a custome theme.

Im working on a new one for myself and I’m adapting the salad theme.

I don’t understand what all the extra pages are for. View, Full, Home, Header, Footer.

I am using default for my initial page and then I will just add some more pages by duping that out and giving it a name I want, then adding that as a page type.

This seems to work fine.

I just wondered if I was missing out on something amazing by not undertanding these extra pages.

there are lots of unique ways to use page types, and some themes may have files to support all sorts of different ideas.
