pages that come up index.php?cID=547 instead of canonical address

I've got quite a few pages that have logical canonical locations in the directory, but they too often answer to /index.php?cID=557. Within page properties they are correct (canonical and alternate), but on Visit they will come up otherwise. Cannot reliably link these pages or change their obstinate character, as I get error pages (embarrassing).
Thanks, Remo. I did try that, but it didn't help. I added the new file to config and copied/pasted the code into that file, but I got an error on my home page that was unsightly. I then scrapped the method, as I am quite new to this. I suspect that the Pretty URL might help, but my C5 is falling apart and I need to reload before it completely dies.
