Possible to automatically make a duplicate file into a new "Version" of an existing file?

So here's what I foresee being a problem in the future. In the file manager, all the items are listed without any hierarchy (no folders). If there are LOTS of files, then it's quite obvious most people won't look through the list to see if a file of the same name already exists. If they upload the new file, it'll create a new instance--this is fine if the file is different, but simply with the same name.

The problem arises when the new upload file is the same as the previous file (or rather, the "same" document, but a newer revision). Is there an option to make newer files that are uploaded with the same name as an existing file into a newer "Version" of the existing file, instead of creating a new file object altogether?

Hmm...

Well when you upload it will create a new "file object altogether" this is sometimes a good thing when people are uploading files you might not want them to overwrite certain things.

However you could just perform a search on the file manager and click replace and upload the new version.

I believe they use this feature so stuff wont get over written especially in the forums (that could cause some major headaches!).

Hope that helps...

Unfortunately, I will not be the one using the intranet site once it's complete, it's for a corporate department with potentially hundreds of users... Asking everyone to search for a file before uploading will most likely end up failing miserably.

I can see how this feature can be a good thing in *some* instances, but not in my particular situation... So if it cannot be turned off, then I guess I'll simply have to look somewhere else. I was starting to like C5, too! The versioning of files is a great feature that's a must-have!
