Preserving image resolution

Permalink 1 user found helpful
I have consistently had a problem with images that I add to my site, in that they lose resolution (this happens with both JPEGs and PNGs). Is there a configuration item that I need to set to make sure this degradation does not occur? Most of my images are screen shots and they are usually unreadable, especially if I right-click and select "View image." Thanks!

Which version of C5 r u using?

What size are the images - width, height and weight (i.e. Mbs, KBs)?

I'm using 5.6.3.4.

The original image was 1320 x 767. When I inserted it into a blog post, I had to resize it to fit the column width, since it was bleeding into the navigation panel on the right. So the resolution in the editor became 520 x 307. I need for users to have the option of seeing the full, original resolution, which is typically possible on a site by simply right-clicking it and selecting "View image." However, if I do this with the published page, all I get is the lower-resolution version. I'm attaching the original that I uploaded. In the Concrete file manager, the image still shows the original size.

Addendum: This is a very basic C5 site. Nothing added that would change that editing environment. The URL of the blog post ishttp://www.ffez.com/site/index.php/blog/file-management-tools...

Is there some editing trick I'm missing? Thanks!

You could create a smaller image and use that in the blog page and then add a link from the small image to the larger image, you could even use a lightbox effect..
You can see this in action by going here..
http://weymouthangling.co.uk/ and look for the link 'different sea bed types' this is not text, it is an image that links to another..

1. C5 version is VERY old, please try to update to 8.4.2.

2. Your theme is not responsive (mobile friendly), if it were you might not need to resize the image as it would fit in allowed space.

3. You could try inserting an image in a content block, make it a link and choose open the link in a popup.

Hmm. All I see when I log in is an option to upgrade to version 5.6.3.5.

Correct.
There is no upgrade path from 5.6 to version 8.
If you want to use version 8, my advice would be to rebuild your site from scratch on the new platform because the alternative approach is to use the migration tools to export data from a 5.6 site and import it into a version 8 site.
The migration process is not straight forward and many members fail to get it to work for them.
If you want to stay on the 5.6 platform, I would advise you to look at the development version of 5.6.4.0 (available on GitHub) as this runs on the very latest stable release of PHP 7.2.10.
If you need any assistance with this, PM me..

Please see this thread:

It sounds like what you want to do.

BTW, it looks like your site is v5.6, so you'll want to be careful since the replies might assume you are using v7+ based on the location of this thread.

Unless you have an optimization add-on or some custom setting and/or code, the default concrete5 should preserve the original file and only make thumbnails. You'll need to provide more information about your specific installation, setting, and add-ons to further troubleshoot, as @Steevb noted.
