Problem adding a link to an image... changes the alignment

I am trying to add a phone number, twitter icon link and a Facebook icon/link in a row in the global header of my website. It seems that it creates a link area around the icon much larger than the icon itself causing it to shift. I cannot seem to get everything on the same line Any ideas?
