My sites nav isn't working!

I've tried following the guide from the C5 Beginners book, since it seemed to get my job done, but now it seems that i can't call the generateNav() function...
I get this error.

Fatal error: Call to a member function generateNav() on a non-object in /customers/f/4/5/mysite.com/httpd.www/c5/themes/test/elements/header.php on line 45.

I'm not super familiar with php, but i thougth that all the functions were already in the C5 core?
