Question about 301 re-directs
Permalink
Hello!
I apologize I am still new to developing/ coding and working with Concrete5. I am trying to 301 redirect these two URLs:
Current URL:http://justask.net/managed-it-services/...
New URL:http://www.justask.net/small-business-managed-it-services-provider...
I am using Vanity URLs (added the code provided to the .htaccess to have vanity URLs work) provided by Concrete 5 which says on the Vanity URL help page - which also says "Additional paths use a 301 (permanent) redirect, so that also keeps the search engines happy.". However, once put in the Vanity URL additional path and save, I enter in the new URL "http://www.justask.net/small-business-managed-it-services-provider" to the browser bar - but it converts it back to the old URL "http://justask.net/managed-it-services/". Is this suppose to happen? I thought that once the 301 redirect is in place the new URL (http://www.justask.net/small-business-managed-it-services-provider) should show in the browser bar and internally concrete5 would just direct you to the old URL "http://justask.net/managed-it-services/"? Is this assumption incorrect? Or, am I doing something wrong/ how do I keep the new 301 redirected URL showing in the browser bar and not the old URL? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,

Page rename, old name 301 redirect?
Edit > Properties >
Tab: Page Paths and Location.
--------------------------------------------------------
xxxxxxxxxxxxx | xxxxxxxxxxx | Canonical URL
http://www.yoursite.com /new page name
So when you save and reopen the page properties you will see the old url below:
More URLs | /old-page-name | xRemove Path
When a user lands on the "old-page-name" there will be (a 301) and redirected to the new page name.
Just fill in the most upper field for the page name, all page names below will be redirected with a 301 (SEO) to the new name.
In time you can remove the old page names!
