Removing blog tags (deleted blog entries)
Permalink 7 users found helpful
Hi
I will wish to activate the blog on my website which I am currently re-creating in Concrete5. I deleted the sample blog entry, but still have the tags from it left over (i.e. "composer", "hello", "world" & "first post".
I'm struggling to find where I can remove these.
Any helpful hints?
Thanks and greetings from Ipswich in England, the first Saxon settlement in the country.

Great, thanks - delighted to get 1 reply, especially when it is so helpful - and it worked!
Best wishes

I'm really glad that I could help, Richard.
Now if someone could figure out for me why they won't delete. I was able to change them at one point, and so now I've got three blank tags just sitting in my tag list -- each a separate, blank tag -- that cannot be deleted and just look nasty in the list.
Anyone have any clue what I should do? Maybe cull them from the database directly? Which table to tags live in exactly?

I had the same issue where i deleted the Tags only to have them persist when I view the Blogs page. I went into the database to try to find where this info was being stored and didn't have any luck.
I then made a new tag (Dashboard -> Attributes -> Tags) and now the Blog page only shows this new tag! All the old default ones went away (composer, first post, etc).

Thank you for your answer. It works great.
Is this really a difficult problem with no answers? I need to delete the "hello world" default tags (as if anyone would want those displayed).
The answer is already marked.
Did you read the "marked answer?"
It's not really the answer as you can see it ends with:
"That said, the delete button isn't working for me, and so I still haven't been able to delete those same tags myself."
And his follow-up response:

Nobody ever answered him. And he's the guy who's answer was marked green.

That is the correct answer - go to '/dashboard/pages/attributes/' and click on 'Tags' under 'Other'. Your blog tags will be listed there and you should be able to hit 'Delete' to remove them.
That was the answer to the initial question and the thread starter has marked an answer to his question.
If you have trouble with deleting the tags, I would suggest starting a new thread explaining what you have done and also give some information regarding your setup (as in blocks installed/in use, your environment, logged errors if you got them, overrides and so on).

Thanks, it did work. I thought there was some problem that persists that I had not yet quite deduced.
OBSERVATION:
Tags on the Blog page seem to accumulate tags from the sub pages (good) but when tags from the sub pages are deleted, the Blog page still lists them (bad) - I think it should auto update and clean out the bad ones.
BUG?
The solution of going to the dashboard / attributes and deleting the offending tags manually works when you are logged in to your concrete5 site. But as soon as you log out - the pages have the offending old tags still there. And viewing the site from a different machine (using two different browsers) still shows the old tags.
As soon as I log in to concrete5 - the offending tags disappear again (from the Blog summary page and from the relevant subpages). This seems like a bug. I am running concrete5.5.2.1.

Have you cleared your site cache?
Clearing the cache fixed it. Thanks.
So I should clear the cache whenever I fiddle with site metadata?!
So I should clear the cache whenever I fiddle with site metadata?!
It all depends on your cache settings, but I think this would have been resolved by itself within 24 hours.
I usually go with: "When in doubt, clear the cache"

Hi, I had the same issue. Even clearing the cache didn't work. Every time I logged out I saw the old tags again. I finally "fixed" it by disabling the 'Block Cache' in 'Cache & Speed Settings'.
I thought I just share that with the frustrated designers out there ;)

I've just come across this as I was having the same trouble with version 5.7.
I went to the dashboard, clicked sitemap and a sitemap came up and the clicked on the entries I wanted to remove and a menu came up. Select "delete".

In the Dashboard, under Page and Themes is the Attributes section. There, the last listing is "Other," and the only entry in the vanilla install is "Tags." It's in here that all the tags are listed with the ability to order them and a button to delete them.
That said, the delete button isn't working for me, and so I still haven't been able to delete those same tags myself.
Wish I could be more help.
