Save New Layout
Permalink
Hi folks, I suppose this is a silly Newbie questions. Please forgive me, if the question was asked before. I checked the community forum, though, I couldn't find any helpful answers.
What I want to do, I am using a laylout with a sidebar on the right area of the page. The sidebar contains on top a 1 row layout, the middle and bottom sections contain a two rows layout.
The same goes for the body part (1 row top/3 rows middle and bottom parts). The footer contains 4 areas. Besides, the footer does contain identical content on every new page I'm going to create.
The described layout is one of three layout forms I am using for most of my pages.
I was wondering, is there any chance I can save my prototype layout(s), so that I can simply choose it from a list whenever I need it?
Do I always have to create each new website step by step from the very beginning again? This seems absurd to me, that I think I am doing a mistake here. There might be a solution that is faster than the way I create my pages now?!
Please help! I really hope I am misunderstanding sth the way I use C5 now... ;-)

First, thanks for your kindly reply!
Well, yes and no! It helps as it goes for saving blocks. Something I was wondering about is, is there any chance I can save a complete site (as it is) as a template?
This would save me even more time, if I had only to fill the template with some content?!
Does C5 support this option, too?

To get this more clear, right now, I have to choose for every single page the navigation bar again, for every page I have to choose the breadcrumb.
There are about 6 or more options (blocks, spaces and so on) I use over and over again.
It's one thing I can choose some pre-configured blocks from a menu, but it'd be even more handsome if I could choose a complete pre-configured site layout...
Any chance C5 does this job, too?!

One way to make the same content (such as a navigation bar) show up in every page would be to make it global.
You can create global areas, and stacks. You may want to explore the Documentation area on how to use these types of things. They are along the lines of what you're trying to accomplish.

You can even do this with ones you already created.
Go into edit mode, and click on the layout you want make a preset. An option for 'Edit Layout' should appear. Choose that, and you'll see a checkbox at the bottom to "save as preset". Check that box, and enter a name for whatever you want to call it. Then save it.
You can choose to 'save as preset' when first adding a new layout, too.
Then, next time you go to add a layout somewhere, you should be able to choose it (a select box shows up at the top of the add layout dialog), which will save you time.
Hope this helps?
