Site loading speed?

Hi all
I just finished this site for a client:

It was on our own server before, which is hosted by the same ISP as the server it is on now. It was never really fast, but now it's just incredibly slow! I mean, even to view a page, it sometimes takes up to 30 secs of loading time, let alone edit!
What could that be? The only "heavy" thing I use is the NivoSlider with a bunch of images, and I already asked the developer about the loading speeds (waiting for answer).
What I have noticed: There's a 1.4MB file called error.log in the root directory - what is that? I've never had that before...does that have anything to do with it?
