sitename logo- another kick at the can

Howdy

I have managed to place an image logo instead of site name in header area although it is not site wide. Made a new stack, etc, couldn't figure out how to make it global. I guess I can place it on each page separately... geez.

Next question is although I made it 1100 Px it hangs right with white area to left and above. Try as I may I cannot find an edit to make it fill top part of page.

Therefor must be a code issue, and as I am a novice can anyone tell me what file do I need to edit?

Thanks, really - been at this all day..

Hi Vanike,

Site name appearance/display is controlled by the theme. Typically, most I've dealt with have allowed images instead of text with no major change (and shown globally). What theme are you using? Better yet, do you have a URL so we can view your results?
So far as making that stack global, it can be achieved in different ways... again, depending on theme: A) see if your theme site name area is already global and use stack there. B) customize theme core to add a global area wherever you need. or C) simply add it using Page type editing from the dashboard (Pages & Themes > Themes > Pages > defaults > edit and save. Apply to current existing pages)

Image placement: easier knowing theme.

To help find what elements are affecting your build, I've often right clicked the page (using Chrome or Firefox) to inspect element. Play with this a bit if you haven't already. You'll find you can adjust parameters while you view the live page to see "what changes what". This is a great tool to experiment with before you physically modify code for your site.

I know I haven't given much of a direct answer but I hope this points you in the right direction :)

Hi Adreco

C5 is somewhat twitchy I think... in my experience so far you follow the steps and then troubleshoot the problems.... a problem with overrides i guess, in some cases.

Your right about the theme controlling the appearance, but in this case my install was barebones- just a page to begin. I like the Plain yogurt so use that exclusively, but there were no global stacks from the outset. So used new stack, and placed image I was able to place in My_Site_Name stack on each of 3 initial pages separately and after that any changes I made to it on one page were reproduced globally (don't know where the controls for that reside, but I recall that from another post). So still no global stacks. Suggestions A & C were to no avail, could look at B (theme core) after I figure it out, but changes to stack on one page seem to work on all. (god I am a novice).

I've got a basic logo up, but wanted a complete header photo to cover the top, but couldn't place it properly to fill the top of the page, so left it out. There's the rub after all this and the main resulting issue.

Somewhat frustrating, but there is a learning curve, right? I am using safari, on my mac. Haven't tried installing another browser... good idea?

My answer is irresolute I guess... but thanks, useful information to think on.
