So you want to build a concrete5 website...
Hey guys and girl (there's gotta be at least one right?),
I'm getting concrete 5 up and running for a new site. Never used it before. A bit of experience with Drupal (basic) and old pro with PostNuke (ancient), and a bunch of other proprietary systems.
Anyway, I'm really struggling here with C5. I can tell it's something special, but I need to change the way my brain works. I want to make some categories and some pages. I know, I know... it's all pages. That's what feels special about c5. But I'm just not getting the implementation of it! It's like I'm stuck in Plato's Cave, and I know there's something special out there but I just want to go back to setting up sections and categories and drilling down pages in each one.
So what I need help with... does anyone know if there is a guide on getting a site up and running with content? Like a dummy guide... Make a site with 5 sections and 10 pages in each section or something. I feel totally stuck at just getting some basic parent category pages (like you see up top here... About, Community, Developers, Marketplace, etc.)
If there is a "So you want to build a Concrete 5 website..." starter-guide let me know.
Long way to ask the question...

I don't know of such a guide. But a quick overview is this: for each "section" you want to create, add a new page (from the home page -- C5 adds new pages "under" the page you click "Add Page" from). Set the name to the "section name" you want. Add a "Page List" block to the page, and set it to show all pages beneath the current page. Exit edit mode and "publish changes". The page will look pretty empty at this point but that's okay.
Now repeat that for the other 4 "sections" (make sure you navigate back to the home page before clicking "Add Page").
After you've got your sections set up, add new pages to each section by navigating to the section page and clicking the "Add Page" button.
SO, there's 2 concepts that are important to know -- first, when you click "add page", it adds a page UNDER the page you're currently on. Second, the Page List block is awesome.
HTH!

Just wanted to say thanks for the quick help. Concrete5 is just a different way of thinking about things, so my brain was a bit slow at first :)

it has screencasts and instructions on the basics of concrete5
