Solutions theme - navigation block not positioned as in std theme

In working with the Solutions theme, my navigation bar initially appeared as it should in the green horizontal bar. Somewhere along the way, it drifted downward and is positioned in the gray horizontal bar below the green. I have no idea how to make it whole again. Help?

Never mind...once I made my site live, the nav bar was positioned where it should be. Lesson learned.

Have the same issue with our community website (http://ashhurst.org/) but it was not solved as easily. The two lines of the Nav disappears down into the white of the page as soon as a user logs in and the Editing/Toolbar appears.

Have very limited abilities with CSS etc, and am about ready to throw it all away.

Hope somebody has some very simple solutions for this simple mind
