Specifying a parent page when adding a new page

It seems that by default, when you add a page from the front-end, it automatically sets the page as a child of the page you were on when you added the page. Is there any way around this, other than adding pages from the dashboard? Maybe a dropdown box on the "Add Page" dialogue box that lets you select the parent page (with the current page selected by default). Just a thought...

Whelp- functionally I'm sure that'd be somewhat easy-ish, I'd be worried about performance on big sites, but I get what you're saying..

I think you hint at why I'm not really into the idea as well. That in-context editing bar is to make the site owner's life easier, not the site developers. Don't get me wrong, many of us individuals play both rolls, but when we're thinking of how that bar and overlay windows work we're trying to keep it intuitive for everyone who will touch the site. Keep It Simple Silly - K.I.S.S. as it was preached before DHH and the Rails gang started "Less is More"... either way - we think they're right for this part of c5.

You are correct however, you can make a bunch of pages by clicking any node you want in the sitemap, so it's easy to build out a skeleton of a site, or a whole new section from one place without navigating around.

One thing I've sometimes yearned for in this vein is actually a way to navigate, using the sitemap, or sitemap light, from the toolbar.. for jumping back across a site or finding a hidden page... but there again, i'm not sure i see an easy way to include it without making that nav bar intimidating to the new user..

good critical thinking tho. ;)

I do agree with you on the simplicity aspect of things...mostly :)

One of the best things about C5 is the overall simplicity and intuitiveness (is that a word), which I absolutely love. I know exactly what you mean with regards to wanting to have some sort of full site navigation from the admin bar.

Just to make sure I'm not missing anything though...is the Site Map the only way to change the positioning of a page in the site's nav hierarchy (i.e. - assign a new parent page)? I'm not trying to beat a dead horse, but it just seems like maybe this would be useful on the page properties box when in edit mode. I know this slightly adds to the complexity, but it seems like a useful feature.

Any other users have thoughts on this? If I'm the only one who thinks this might be useful, I'd be glad to drop it :) It just seems like it would be quite helpful and still not overcomplicate things.

Thanks for the feedback Franz.

Yeah you can copy, move, or alias pages from the actual page you want to move. First put it in edit mode, THEN click move/delete and you get a mini-sitemap..

I thought you wanted to be able to create a new press release while sitting across the site in products...

That make any sense?

Well, technically I guess I meant both...being able to move a page AND create a page as a child of page other than the page you're currently on.

Yeah, so I totally forgot about the "Move/Delete" button. Duh! That is basically what I needed.

I will that that it still would be nice to be able to move it as you create, but moving it after creating it really works just as well. I'm a happy camper.
