Starting New Project w/ New URL
Permalink
I must be missing something simple. I have a Concrete5 account and I have already created a website I used for training purposes using one URL.
Now, I want to create a second project with an Addon Domain URL. I thought I could just go to the project page and create a new project with the different URL but it is not clear how I accomplish this task. Do I need to start all over again with Instant Setup / Option B : Host Your Own Site onhttp://www.concrete5.org?

Have you tried contacting their support directly? If you're paying for a hosting account I'm sure they'll help you out.
Did you get an answer to this? I'm having the same issue and it looks like there can only be one project which is pretty lame. I hope I'm just missing something. Personally, this whole project requirement to be connected is something they should do away with. It really makes little sense. In fact requiring connection to the community to get an addonalso discourages users. If someone wants to download an addon, just let them download an addon.
Actually they way they have it setup makes a lot of sense keeping in mind that Concrete5 is geared toward ease of use for even the non-developer.
When you connect to the community you have the ability to search and install add-ons right from your site and you, or your clients, need not have developer experience such as how to use an FTP client and where in concretes file structure to install said add-on. You can also get any updates to add-ons you have installed with the click of a button.
As an aside, you are not "required" to connect and any add-ons that are free do have a link that will allow you to just download the source code so you do have the option to not connect.

I have the same issue. Anyone get this resolved yet?
I have the same question. And obviously nobody knows how to do this. It seems like such a simple thing.
Are you talking about the projects page you have here on Concrete5.org? If so all you have to do it create a new Concrete5 installation and go to the Dashboard -> Add Functionality and "Connect" to Concrete5 Community and it will add that page to your projects here on Concrete5.org :)
Hope this helps make this a little more clear for you.

I'm confused can you be a little more clear... I'm trying to edit my ipage website using concrete5 and it wont let me
Hi,
You might be interested in checking out our Editor's Guide for an explanation of how our editing features work:

Looking at your site, I see that you've got a purchased theme activated. I recall that that particular theme is a little different than others in how it loads and displays pages, so you might want to post a new support ticket and have the developer give you some advice on how it works:

I know this is an old thread but it's a current issue so I'm adding to it.
When vGibson said you only have to go to the Dashboard->Add Functionality and "Connect" he means go to the Dashboard click "Extend Concrete 5" and then click "Connect".
Unfortunately this doesn't work quite as easily as you'd think because you need to login with a concrete5.org account which is associated with the project as an owner or developer (whatever that means).
I must be missing something obvious here because my concrete5.org account has nothing to do with the website. When I login to the website I use an account which I created for the website. So what the hell? Neither my concrete5.org login credentials nor my website user credentials allow me to connect to the community.
What's the trick?

Hi Vincent,
Since this thread is old, vGibson was talking about the concrete5.4 Dashboard, which has a page named "Add Functionality". As you pointed out, that's since been replaced with "Extend concrete5".
Here's a more in-depth explanation of the different logins you might be dealing with:
http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/editors/explain-all-...
I think I know what seems to be happening with your site.
Vernon's correct that when you connect a new concrete5 site for the first time, you can use *any* concrete5.org account, assuming you know the username and password.
When you connect a site, we save a private record of your site's URL in your concrete5.org profile. So it might be:
somehost.com/~username/dev/
Now if you move the site at some later date-- perhaps you make a copy of it and put it somewhere else on the web, point a new domain at it or simply move it out of a temporary / development directory-- now it's located somewhere else:
some-cool-domain.com
This means that that URL we saved the first time around no longer matches up with your site. So we ask you to re-connect the site using the concrete5.org username and password that you used the first time. This will let us update the URL for the project.
This is when you see the message you pasted:
"You must enter the username and password of a valid concrete5.org account. This user account must be associated with the project as an owner or developer."
So it appears that you (or another person working on your site) may have connected it to our site first using a different concrete5.org username.
If you go to Dashboard > Extend > Update you'll see:
"The base URL of your site does not match a registered instance of the site. Please click below to authenticate your site again."
In order to install new stuff or update your existing add-ons, we'll need to figure out which account was used to connect the site. Do you have any usernames other than vincentwansink? Did you purchase any add-ons and themes for your site?

I did purchase other add-ons and themes but I don't have a different username. This is the only username I have ever used with concrete5. (Except for logging into the site itself I log in with simply "Vincent" but I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to be logging in with my concrete5.org user account, not my website account)
Hi Vincent,
Yes, you should be connecting your site using your username and password for concrete5.org.
I checked out your account and I see a few projects connected, and some licenses assigned to them.
Can I ask you to send a private message to Julia, our community / support manager? She should be able to help you sort this out.

Thanks Matt. I will do that.
I seem to be having the same problem here. I am trying to connect my site (http://www.urbancraftuprising.com) to the C5 community so I can download add-ons.
However, it tells me I need to enter my C5 login credentials. The only account I have established with C5 that I know of is my ristretto6 login, the one that I have connected to my other website,http://www.yarniapdx.com.
I couldn't see anywhere within my C5 account a place to add a project manually, and still my urbancraftuprising.com dashboard won't let me connect to the community since I haven't officially established ownership of that page there (and can't figure out how!).
Seems like I'm caught in a loop here, can you help me out?
Thanks!

Hi ristretto6,
I sent you a private message with what appears to be a different concrete5.org username that was used to connect your site.
For anyone else reading this in the future: if your site is running concrete5.5.0 or later, there will be a "Project Page URL" listed at Dashboard > Extend concrete5. This can help a member of the core team figure out the username that connected the site.
Check out my attached screenshot if you need help locating this.
Unfortunately, if you're running an older version, like concrete5.4.2.2, you'll have a very different Dashboard that does not list he site's project page URL.

Hi MattWaters,
We're having this problem connecting to Community. The old web designer is gone gone gone and not replying to emails.
The image you attached shows a connected site. Seince we can't connect, instead of a URL, it shows "The base URL of your site does not match a registered instance of the site. Please click below to authenticate your site again." Seems like we're going in a circle, no project on our new Community login, can't login via site Admin, can't install addons, it's crazy. See Attachment image.
I think that the old designer created the site together with others under their account and now that they are gone, we can't get access to install or update addons.
Followed instructions on other forum to remove DB rows, MARKETPLACE_SITE_TOKEN and MARKETPLACE_SITE_URL_TOKEN. Cleared cache several times. Nothing.
Help!
Daniel
