Strange Permissions Error

Greetings,

I'm new to the forums, so I hope I'm doing this right =)

Our client has recently encountered the following error while attempting to upload images using the file manager:

"Unable to copy file to storage directory. Please check permissions on your upload directory and ensure they can be written to by your web server."

They've been successfully uploading images for a few months now, so this issue has just recently come about.

Strangely they still have the ability to delete images using the file manager, just not add them.

The website is hosted on a Linux server (not my specialty) that we manage with Plesk. I checked the permissions on the "files" directory and they are set 777.

I've also checked to see if there are any disc space limitations on the website and there don't appear to be any.

Any advice would be more than welcome.

I've gotten this before (yesterday in fact).

Inside the files folder, check the cache, tmp and trash folders. I've had to recreate them with a different name (and 777 permissions), copy the contents from the old folders, delete the old folders and rename the new folders to the names of the originals.

That seems to have fixed it for me in the past.

Thank you for the reply.

I recreated all the sub-directories within "files" and then removed the old ones, and renamed the new directories. Unfortunately, I am still getting the same error message.

I'm not sure if it's useful information, but the client first encountered the error while trying to edit an uploaded image using Picnik.
