Suggestion to c5 Developers

Permalink 1 user found helpful
I design and develop websites for a living. I have worked with a number of systems, including a few sites with Concrete5. I lean towards using Concrete5 when I especially want an easy interface for my clients to update their site content.

There is one major glitch in that, and I wanted to share this in the hopes of contributing to c5 improvement.

Adding images is complex.

My comments are geared towards sharing from the perspective of someone who does not do this all the time, which is who I and other developers are developing for when making a site for a client.

For you it may be intuitive because you made this system and use it all the time, but here is what it looks like to someone unfamiliar with editing content in c5.

1. I go to edit some content and click on the block to edit. Then I see a link that says "Add Image". Up until that point, it is easy and straightforward.

2. I clicked on a button to "Add Image" and I end up in the File Manager. Takes me a second to adjust to all that I am presented with on that screen. It would be easier if there was more clarity in the design and layout there with regard to basic options - upload a new image or select an existing one from the File Manager.

3. ok. I browse to find the file, the image., and select it. I would think it would upload at that point, but nothing happens. So I look around at what I need to do now. I click on the Upload File button. I can figure all this out, but it takes several phases of being confused briefly.

4. I upload the image and click Continue. that makes sense.

5. Now is where it is really confusing. What do I do now. I originally clicked to add an image. Now what? How do I get it on the page. I am looking around, nothing. At this point, I am confused and starting to get frustrated.

Sure, you know what to do. But that is a big problem.

In addition, there is no tutorial or instructions in your documentation on this very important, basic, and common need for someone to modify their website. You have instructions on adding forms and more complicated stuff, but no instructions for adding an image.

At very least, please, add this to your basic documentation.

I hope that is helpful. I like c5, but this was a problem before 5.5, and still is. I thought it would be improved, and since not, I wanted to provide feedback.

Thanks,

Tis a pain, I'm forever reminding clients the procedure!

So...

...A how-to?

Or 'There's an app for that', sorry an 'There's add-on for that'

Might help for now.
