SuperUser replacement

Since our SuperUser retired some time ago, I have not been able to access the site permissions (advanced permissions set to on). Any ideas on what I can do?
If you have access to the database through phpMyAdmin or something similar you should be able to change the email address in the Users table for UserID 1 (assuming this is the super user) and then do a password reset to access the account again.
Hi, Thanks for replying. I'll try that and see what happens, though my tech ability is a bit limited I know what you're suggesting and I think its within my scope of what I can do, but will look later this afternoon. Much appreciated.
