Tabs not updating
Permalink
In the previous version of 5.7 adding or moving eg. portfolio into the private area was automatically updated or deleting a tab was updated as well but now it's not. Only when I added a test youtube video and then hit publish the changes I made to the tabs got changed.
Also how do I make a home button to return to the home page.

I'm surprised I haven't yet received a reply but none the less I want to make an addition. This morning all the changes made to the tabs appeared correctly on the site which begs me to ask why the several hours wait. Why hasn't the changes been automatically done on the fly.
Also I would still like to know how to create a home button that leads to the main page.

Your question really doesn't supply enough information, most likely why nobody has responded yet. You don't say which theme, a link to the site nor what you mean by tabs.
I'm going to *guess* that you are talking about an Auto Nav block, and if so, there are settings for that to show links even to visitors that have access or not.
If you are developing a site, you are best off to *disable all caching* (most likely the delay you are talking about).
This could also be effected by your browser cache, and any Apache .htaccess mod_expires settings.

Bet you'll probably find that you have a cache expiration of 6 hours.
On your Home page, edit the properties and see if it has the Exclude from Nav attribute selected, if so, un-check/remove that attribute.

Thank you for your reply, i have done as you suggested and will wait and see what the results are. With the tabs I am referring to blog, contact etc I am using the elements template with all the sample content loaded. The website iswww.www.handmadeuniqueclocks,com... I am new to this so I don't know what I'm doing even the things you told me to uncheck I don't know what they all mean so please with my ignorance till I learn.
I created a home button to take me to the main page and I couldn't get it to do that so I deleted it but I'm looking at my webpage and the button is still there and when you click on it it takes me to my home page. So I don't understand why it's there when I deleted it from the sitemap..
There is a lot to learn with this program and it's not as simple as I thought it would be.

I wouldn't recommend trying to hunt-n-peck your way to learning how to use concrete5. You won't find much help here in the forums making up names for things (those aren't tabs, they are Auto Nav links), nor blaming the software for a lack of understanding.
You can't delete your home page, it is the top of your sitemap tree. Everything, including your dashboard and login pages live beneath it.
First, turn OFF at least the Block Cache and Full Page Caching during development (this is your 6 hour waiting problem)! http://www.handmadeuniqueclocks.com/index.php/dashboard/system/opti...
If you are messing around with theme CSS or Javascript, turn off those as well.
Then get some learning on! Type something in the search box on the right in your edit bar, help is often available.

Look up Exclude from Nav for your home page: http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/using-concrete5-7/in-page-ed...
Display links that may require login: http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/using-concrete5-7/in-page-ed...
Cache & Speed Settings (learn what these do): http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/using-concrete5-7/dashboard/...
Watch some concrete5.org YouTube videos: https://www.youtube.com/user/concrete5cms/videos...
There are many other helpful concrete5 videos on YouTube not made by the core team - Search (yep): concrete5
If you post intelligent questions that show you at least *tried* to find answers (just like any other online forum) you will find the community here very helpful!
Take your time, try not to panic, and welcome to conrete5!

Can I ask if I turn OFF at least the Block Cache and Full Page Caching during development should I turn it back on when I'm done or can I lave it off indefinitely as I intend to do blogs, post picture continuously and so on
Sorry, for some reason I didn't get notified that you asked this question.
Yes, when you are done with designing/developing you probably want to turn it back on (it reduces the number of database queries and speeds up the results). Really depends on your hosting and amount of visitors.
It has nothing to do with posting new content (just caching it after first access).
In high-volume environments many people leave the caching on, and just clear it as they are developing/testing. It makes more sense once you understand how it works, but it's easier if you are new to just turn it off to start. It's pretty simple to bookmark your Clear Cache dashboard page.
Hope that helps,
John

Thanks Jasteele12 for your help and very useful advice.
You are most welcome and I hope you are enjoying your new concrete5 journey!
I wish I never made the upgrade, this is getting too frustrating
