Themes not changing properly

Working with a clean install of c5 latest version, Installed it with the full demo site option.
The problem I am experiencing is that after downloading a new theme and activating it, parts of the old theme seem to still be showing up on the new theme. There is extra editable items in the header and footer, the problem with this is that it is messing up the new theme.
How do I correct this?
