Things out of reach, maybe

some things i just cannot seem to simplify further :
1 - The copyright notice at lower left nominates a wrong entity. I didnt know how it would use certain informations during setup. I dont really care for the credit as the effort is not really mine, i just filled in the blanks

2 - I dont want the world to see "login to edit this site", I'd like to just have something more discreet or meaningless like just "Coalface"

3 - There seems to be no way to flush survey data used in testing

4 - I'd like to widen the right hand sidebar in order to make survey question fit more elegantly. There seems to be no way to do this.

I could easily do all of the above manually if i knew where the actual php file resided.
i re-downloaded it all back via FTP to another dummy folder, then did a search by content for new material I added. to no avail.

does this mean all the php's in the files, config & blocks directories ultimately point back to a place within concrete5.org. - If your server goes bust, then is my site unavailable?

where do i find the the main index.php or index.html?

1. The copyright information is pulled from your "site name" entry that can be accessed through your dashboard. From your dash select system & settings, and under basics click "site name" change the info there by clicking on the info, and editing.

2. This can be edited out or rewritten in your themes files. For greek yogurt the path will be concrete/themes/greek-yogurt/footer.php ( also a better place to edit your copyright info, so site name stays untouched )

3. Delete survey information through your dashboard. From your dahboard select surveys under the reports section, and your survey controls are there.

4. Change your layouts through page types /httpdocs/concrete/themes/greek_yogurt/left-sidebar.php /main.css /style.css etc

No your site files, folders, add-ons, packages are all found on your server. I suggest getting firebug or using your browsers built in inspector to see where elements are pulling their styles, and info from.

1 - thanks for that, and so quickly too!!. I did that and it worked, but, across 3 devices to address the other issues below i'm getting various combinations of my edits done, and not yet done. Generally, Safari on the Mac isn't behaving, Safari the iPad is showing the most correct iteration of things, and IE7 under XP virtualization is showing the opposite of the iMac halfway-right.

2- Cool. I did that in an external editor, and re-FTP'd it up, still waiting for all the ISP mirrors and whatnot to line up, if that's what's happening above

3 - On all three devices/'puters it only displays information where ypu specify. there are no controls to actually modify. The easiest workaround is to delete the block, wait 12 hours and set it up again. Life goes on.

4 - as for 2 above

5 - sanctuary. sanctuary. sanctuarymuch. that's a relief.

Just a quick note:

Ekko's responses are excellent, but perhaps give the impression you should/can edit files under the top level /concrete directory.

Don't do that, it's sort of a no-go zone for editing as if you update your site with a later version of c5, your changes will be overwritten.
Instead, you would want to copy the core theme to make a new one and make your changes there. See this guide:http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/editors/customize-a-...

for reasons of brevity i didnt say a lot of things
one of them was that i was indeed "doing the deed" on a copy

However not in the same technique as your helpful link.

I also didn't say that i am only using concrete5 for a comments page to an otherwise established hand-coded minimalist site. C5 seemed to be the closest design "off the shelf" to match my other pages.

However, never say never. ( i guess i just did :') Once i have some more knowledge who knows where i may use it in the future, so thank you for the helpful link ( oh i said that )
