Upload images issue through File Manager

When i choose to upload an image, it allows me to select 1, but just continues to say 'uploading image'... but nothing ever happens - even if left for half an hour. The file is under 1mb

Have you tried uploading the file in different browsers? I found that sometimes IE and Firefox are buggy, and other times Chrome (my preferred browser) causes issues. Clearing the cache of both the Concrete site and of the browser sometimes fixes all the issues.
Yes have tried different browser and different computers (MAC and PC).

Check the permissions for the "root/files" folder is set to 755

It was a permissions issue - the IT team had decided in their infinite wisdom to change it.
