Use of Smart IP Banning throws SQL error on wrong password

Well the title says it all and as I understand it this issue was resolved in the 5.3.1 release.

An unexpected error occurred.
mysql error: [1264: Out of range value for column 'ipFrom' at row 1] in EXECUTE("INSERT INTO SignupRequests(id,ipFrom,date_access) VALUES (NULL,-1062729116,NULL)")

Anything I can do about it or do I have to turn the Smart IP Banning off? Any reason it tries to put in NULLs and a negative value in the ipFrom field?

I'm on 5.4.2.1 btw but the issue was there in 5.4.1 as well (don't know about earlier releases since I didn't test it then).
