Username artificial restrictions
Permalink
I tried to add my first user to concrete5, as:
firstname.lastname
just to find an error message:
"A username may only contain letters or numbers."
why was this artificial restriction put in place?? What is the reasoning to not accept typical username chracters such as underscores, dots and hyphens??
Please add support for this characters.
This bothers me because I would have to tell my clients: so, your email is firstname.lastname and your CMS username is firstnamelastname all together... one more thing for them to remember is always bad.

I would agree, for the same reasons - more things for the user to remember and keep straight leads to more difficulty for the user, which leads to negative feelings toward the website. I just noticed this tonight as well. In fact, my initial admin username is username.role. Why is this option no longer available?
I'd be curious to know why, too. This just took away some interoperability with our other systems.
