want to create new page that redirects to external page

Can't seem to do this easy task...
I want a clean link like this for a new external page:http://www.mywebsite.com/newpage
but the only option I get when adding "newpage" is to redirect to an internal page, which I have done many times. When I "add an external link", it only creates it in the menu I chose, but that's not what I want.
Please help.
If only, when you choose "add page" it gives you a choice of "external link"...

Thank you for your answer. I do not want to add a submenu that links to an external link. I want to add a page and when a person type the address of that page or clicks on it, it will bring them to the external page directly.
I have a webinar coming up and the link to register for it is soooo long that I want to promote a shorter and cleaner link on Facebook that has my domain name in it. I do this often for one of my own pages, but it's the first time I need an external link like this.

The External Link option is so that you can add a Menu Item which then just takes you to somebody else's website.
The Add New Page option is for creating a new content page on your website.
If you are trying to add a link into the menu that links to a different content page on your website you would use the External Link and just put the URL in there.
