Where is the Instant Dashboard????????

Can anyone tell me what happened to the awesome instant dashboard and how to get it back. I loved that feature so I could skip loading the dashboard page, but when I upgraded to 5.6.0.2 it has a lame instant dashboard with no features.
I am talking about when you mouse over the dashboard button and it would show you the entire dashboard so you didn't have to waste time loading the dashboard every time you needed it. I loved that feature and don't know why anyone would get rid of it. Is there a setting somewhere so I can turn it back on?
I also preferred the minimalist view of the dashboard so I din't have to scroll, is there an option to restore that also? I am all about ease of use on the back end.

Do 'Dashboard', find your favourite places and click on the star.
That 'star' is added to the 'Dashboard hover' drop down.
