Wrong Page Type

Hi.

I wonder if anyone else is having the same problem I'm experiencing...

I try to add a new page type and choose the left side bar icon. However, when I go to set the page defaults it's showing as a right column page.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
CJ

the page types and the themes sometimes don't align in the most sane ways.. while the pagetypes that are default in concrete5 read like layout tools (left, right, full column), sometimes the themes don't honor that..

are you in plain yogurt?

I dunno, i've never seen anything like that..

can you setup a demo account onhttp://getconcrete5.com and try it there? If you get the same thing there it something browser/app related.. if not, its something you've done to your install..

Hi Franz.

Ok, I've tested it in my demo account. Same thing happens. Happens in IE v7 and FireFox 3.0.6.

Thanks,
CJ

okay, i'm confused.. what are you talking about?

"However, when I go to set the page defaults it's showing as a right column page."

you mean when you goto page types / defaults in dashboard and you go into the right column page and try to set a block on pages that follow this page type, a page you thought was left is showing up as right? because that's what i thought, but that's not what i'm seeing.. i'm in ff3, mac..

can you upload a quicktime or image? im confused as to whats up..

Hi Franz.

I've attached two screen captures that hopefully show what's happening. These were taken on the demo account I setup.

I created a page type called 'page123' and set it as a left-column type. Then when I go to set the defaults for that page type in edit mode it is apparent that it's a right-column type.

Thanks,
CJ

Okay, so you're making a new page type called page123.

The idea here is you're going to have a lot of actual pages throughout the site that you somehow want to group together under the moniker page123.

when you make a new page, following type page123, concrete5 looks in the theme directory you have chosen (plain yogurt) and tries to find a template file called page123.php. If it can find that file, it uses it to determine layout. if it cannot, it uses default.php to determine layout. in plain yogurt, default.php lays out the space with a large column on the left and a small one on the right.

the icons in page types are nothing more than icons.

I'll be the first to admit this is not particularly intuitive at a glance. I'm not sure if there's a better way to present it tho.. i've thought of changing those page type icons out with more descriptive stuff.. perhaps a list of the block areas defined in the type.. i dunno..

system is working as expected in short. check out this article..
